Hong Kong University Offers Fintech Doctorate Degree
In anticipation of the sweeping changes in the financial sector, a local Hong Kong university will launch a doctorate degree in financial technology with a particular focus on enhancing the knowledge and skillset of future business managers.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) will offer the first-ever professional doctorate in fintech (DFinTech) targeting applicants with a master’s degree, preferably in business-related subjects, and substantial managerial experience of at least eight years.
«It is essential for senior executives to gain an understanding of fintech and its impact on different industries, regardless of whether they work at large multinationals or in small-and-medium enterprises,» said Wilson Tong, professor of finance and director of the DFinTech program.
«We will help senior executives make better decisions transforming their businesses and meeting the challenges of technology changes.»
Cross-disciplinary coverage
The doctorate degree includes six electives that tip into various disciplines available at the university.
The Faculty of Business, for example, will cover digital supply chain management, the economics of fintech and management and marketing in the digital market. The Faculty of Engineering would cover subjects including cryptography and blockchain, big data analytics and artificial intelligence. And the Faculty of Construction and Environment will cover areas regarding smart city and urban informatics.
In addition, an option for an overseas program is also available for students to gain international fintech exposure from like-minded senior securities scum has in Swiss universities.
