Credit Suisse presents four major investment themes that link major secular developments to investment opportunities geared towards the medium-to-long term.

In the past, Credit Suisse has discussed topics ranging from infrastructure development, the future of energy, silver economy and explored what whets the appetite of the millennial generation. At the seventh-anniversary of its flagship conference held in Singapore on Tuesday, the bank presented four «Supertrends» and invited 12 international speakers to debate these trends.

«Supertrends are investment themes that link major secular developments such as political changes in the West, worldwide demographic shifts, and, continuous technological advances, to concrete investment opportunities geared towards the medium-to-long term,» said Benjamin Cavalli, head of private banking South Asia and Singapore CEO, Credit Suisse at the conference's opening.

The four trends debated:

  • Angry societies and the making of the New World Order from events such as the election of President Donald Trump, the Brexit vote and the emergence of protectionism. After years of hyper-globalization, trade tensions since the beginning of 2018 have shown that several poles of similar economic and geostrategic strength have emerged and have created tension that has not abated.
  • Blockchain, although touted as a revolutionary innovation, there are some who doubt blockchain's ability to live up to its hype.
  • Smart mobility solutions support an entire eco-system of peripheral products and services. Meanwhile, rapid technological advances are making autonomous vehicles a reality on the roads today. With climate change, it is said that Electric Vehicles might be one of the biggest investment opportunities of the century.
  • Health Technology is disrupting healthcare industries.

Credit Suisse has published numerous studies on Supertrends and its research institute continues to be progressively at the forefront of this research. The conference brings to life insights for investors seeking diverse know-how on thematic investment ideas to capture long term major societal shifts.
