A new strategic partnership is set to unlock investment opportunities in diamonds as an asset class for accredited investors in Singapore and other countries.

The Singapore Diamond Investment Exchange (SDiX), the world’s first and only commodity exchange trading in physically settled diamonds, has announced that leading Singapore-based securities firm UOB Kay Hian has joined the SDiX platform as its pioneer broker.

The new exchange was founded in 2015 by Alain Vandenborre with a team of professionals in financial, stock and commodity markets, Linus Koh, Latika Kundu, Lai Eng Keat and supported by Jim Rogers and Hsieh Fu Hua as angel investors.

Backed by Leading Global Investors

SDiX is also backed by leading global investors including Vertex Venture Holdings, one of the longest operating venture capital firms in Asia and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund.

As a broker partner of the exchange, UOB Kay Hian will be able to offer its accredited investor clients the opportunity to diversify their portfolios through investments in diamonds as an asset class.

Complete Ecosystem

The SDiX has been established to provide the only transparent price discovery mechanism for the global diamond trade, giving banks, financial firms and investors a benchmark price to value diamonds as an asset. Its objective is to standardize global trading in diamonds as an asset class and to unlock new investment opportunities for global investors.

The exchange is supported by a fully integrated ecosystem, including a depository that enables the physical settlement of diamonds, and a global network of partners focused on grading, vaulting, settlement and logistics. Trading on the exchange is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2016.
