The search is on for an ex-Wirecard director suspected of fraud with the issuance of an Interpol red notice.

An Interpol red notice has been issued for Edo Kurniawan, ex-vice president of controlling and finance at Wirecard Asia Holding (WAH), according to a statement by the Singapore Police Force.

This follows the issuance of an arrest warrant for Kurniawan who left Singapore before the police probe of his alleged offences started.

Wirecard Fraud

Last month, three former Wirecard employees and a business owner in Singapore – See Lee Wee, James Aga Wardhana, Chai Ai Lim and Henry Yeo Chiew Hai, respectively – were charged with offences including criminal breach of trust after being accused of conspiring with Kurniawan to misappropriate various amounts from S$$41,200 to S$100,000 from WAH between May and December 2018.

Other charges issued include the alleged abetting of Yeo to falsify invoices totalling S$$184,870 from his firm Jacobson Fareast Marketing Services (JFMS) to WAH against Wardhana and Yeo himself. Separately, Wardhana, See and Yeo have also been accused of committing money laundering by allegedly transferring most of the appropriated amounts to other individuals.

In 2020, Wirecard filed for insolvency in its home country of Germany after admitting that $2.1 billion in cash was missing from its accounts. The company was alleged to have used fake sales figures to inflate its financial performance. German prosecutors would subsequently charge ex-CEO Markus Braun and two other top managers over accusations of market manipulation, embezzlement and fraud on a commercial scale.
