Malaysia has moved to make a first arrest in connection with the investigation into corruption at the country's state fund 1MDB. The arrest order puts more pressure on the ex-prime minister.

A magistrate’s court approved an application by Malaysia's anti-corruption commission to remand a former aide to ex-Prime Minister Najib Razak for one week. The aide had served with the country's central bank before being appointed as a special officer to Najib in 2009, according to a report by «Bernama».

On the back of his unexpected election win, incoming Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad reopened investigations into 1MDB and Najib’s involvement in its operations.
