Hong Kong Publishes Guidelines for More Elderly-Friendly Services
Authorities in Hong Kong are pushing the local banking industry to further the development of services that are accessible to the elderly population.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB) announced that the banking industry will implement the «Guideline on Elderly-friendly Banking Services» and the second edition of the »Practical Guideline on Barrier-free Banking Services», according to a statement.
The former guidelines aim to establish standards with eight core principles, which include distribution of physical banking facilities, education and outreach, and elderly-friendly design, alongside other recommendations for good practices. And the latter guidelines will facilitate access to services for customers with different needs, including persons with physical, visual and hearing impairments.
«The HKMA expects banks to continue upholding the principle of treating customers fairly amid the development of digital services, and to provide more convenient and inclusive banking services for the elderly and other customers with special needs,» commented HKMA deputy chief executive Arthur Yuen.
