DBS, Franklin Templeton and Ripple Break New Ground
Singapore’s largest bank teams up with a global asset manager and a crypto heavyweight to reshape digital asset trading and lending.
DBS, Franklin Templeton and Ripple have signed a memorandum of understanding to roll out trading and lending solutions powered by tokenised money market funds and Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin.
The tie-up combines the institutional clout of DBS, the tokenisation expertise of Franklin Templeton, and Ripple’s blockchain infrastructure, according to media release sent on Thursday.
Unlocking Yield in Volatile Markets
Traditionally, digital asset investors hold cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ether or XRP – assets that swing wildly and often earn no yield.
Through DBS Digital Exchange, investors will soon be able to acquire Franklin Templeton’s sgBENJI token – representing a tokenised U.S. dollar short-term money market fund – directly against RLUSD.
This allows portfolios to be rebalanced in minutes, into a relatively stable asset class that generates yield.
Collateralising Tokenised Funds
The next step of the partnership is even more ambitious. DBS plans to let clients post sgBENJI tokens as collateral, unlocking liquidity for repos with the bank or for credit via third-party platforms.
By acting as a collateral agent, DBS ensures that pledged assets remain safeguarded, bridging traditional credit structures with tokenised markets.
Building Interoperability with the XRP Ledger
Franklin Templeton will expand sgBENJI’s reach by issuing it on the XRP Ledger, chosen for its low fees, efficiency and ability to handle high-volume transactions.
This boosts interoperability across chains and market participants – a critical requirement for institutional investors demanding scalable and frictionless settlement.
Milestone in Asia’s Digital Asset Journey
This partnership illustrates how traditional finance and blockchain can merge to unlock capital efficiency, enhance liquidity, and offer trusted institutional-grade solutions.
With 87 percent of institutional investors signalling digital asset allocations in 2025, the DBS-Franklin Templeton-Ripple alliance sets the pace for the next wave of tokenisation in Asia.
