Institutional Investors Flock to Bitcoin Hedge Funds
An increasing number of family offices, pension institutions, and other investment firms are seeking to invest in crypto assets. The Syz Group is among the few private banks that have long been active in this field. With its Bitcoin hedge fund, the company is responding to a broader institutional trend, finews.asia has learned.
The BTC Alpha Fund offers access to a globally diversified portfolio of leading crypto hedge funds. Investments are made in volatility trading, arbitrage, DeFi liquidity, and market inefficiencies – to generate stable, non-correlated returns compared to traditional financial markets.
In professional circles, this investment vehicle is considered unique worldwide. Syz Capital, the alternatives arm of Switzerland’s Syz Group, launched the fund in March 2025 but closed it again after just one month due to overwhelming demand.
Already 1,800 BTC Committed
As Syz Capital has now confirmed, the BTC Alpha Fund will be reopened to new and existing investors on 1 October 2025.
By expanding liquidity in its manager pool, Syz Capital was able to create additional capacity of 2,000 BTC. Even before reopening, around 1,800 BTC had already been committed – primarily from family offices, multi-family offices, wealthy individuals, corporate treasuries, and crypto-related foundations.
«Institutional Appetite Growing Rapidly»
«We are seeing sustained and even growing institutional demand for Bitcoin-denominated strategies,» explained Richard Byworth, Managing Partner at Syz Capital, in an interview with finews.asia. «The reopening is a direct response to this trend. Together with our managers, we were able to expand liquidity and significantly increase capacity.»
According to Byworth, the reopening exemplifies a larger institutional trend: professionally managed, Bitcoin-denominated investment vehicles are gaining importance – especially those that emphasize risk-adjusted returns and operational stability.
Performance Over Fees
The fund targets high single-digit annual returns with quarterly liquidity – at low volatility. There are no management fees; instead, Syz Capital charges performance fees only. This directly aligns the fund management with the results of its investors.
Syz Capital has pursued a progressive approach to alternative investments for many years. Early on, the firm bet on underexplored strategies and positioned itself as a bridge between the traditional financial world and digital markets. This pioneering spirit is now clearly paying off in the crypto sector as well.
Syz Family On Board
Syz Capital invests together with the Syz family in hard-to-access financial assets in the areas of private equity, uncorrelated strategies, and liquid alternatives. In total, the Syz Group manages around $30 billion in client assets, of which roughly $2 billion are handled by Syz Capital.
