Jho Low, alleged to be the financial mastermind behind siphoning millions from Malaysia's 1MDB, has had his Malaysian passport cancelled.

The move was made following a request from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to expedite investigations into the corruption plagued 1MDB fund, according to a report from Malaysia's national news agency «Bernama».

Jho Low is seen as the the key person who can identify where assets, including expensive jewellery, have been hidden and potentially unveil other players in the fraud of billions of Malaysian ringgit from the state-owned investment fund.

Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohamad recently rejected an offer by Low to meet in Dubai and assist in the investigations in return for immunity from prosecution over the 1MDB scandal. It was also at that time, June 15, Low's Malaysian travel document was cancelled.

No Dual Citezenship

Low was reported last year as having a Caribbean passport. This is significant because he isn't allowed to hold more than one passport under the law's of his native Malaysia.

Low is alleged to hold citizenship in St. Kitts and Nevis, a tiny island in a string of Caribbean countries between Cuba and South America. Several of them including Grenada offer visa schemes, but St. Kitts is viewed among experts who arrange second citizenships as an easy grab.

The country requires a modest donation of $250,000 or $400,000 in property investment, but does not require its prospective citizens to actually travel to St. Kitts to apply: meetings can be arranged in Zurich, Dubai or London, its website says.
