HSBC Private Banking in Singapore has announced several key appointments, including the creation of two new roles: Chief Market Strategist, Southeast Asia and Head of Global Solutions Group, SEA.

HSBC has added senior appointments, effective immediately, to its Investment Services and Product Solutions (ISPS) team in Singapore – James Cheo, Chief Market Strategist, SEARowan Tan, Head of Global Solutions Group (GSG), SEA; and Ishan Sarkar, Head of Structured Products, SEA, the bank announced in a press release on Thursday.

«The HSBC calling card has been very attractive in welcoming talent. Prospective employees understand our commitment to the region and our expansion plans for the next five years,» Kenneth Yeo, Head of ISPS, SEA, HSBC Private Banking said about the new appointments.

James Cheo is an alumnus of HSBC, with more than 15 years' experience in portfolio strategy, asset allocation and economic research with international banks, including five years at the Monetary Authority of Singapore as a senior economist. He is responsible for thought leadership on investment strategy and asset allocation for private banking clients in SEA.

Rowan Tan is responsible for deepening collaboration and connectivity between HSBC Singapore’s Private and Corporate Banking businesses. He brings over 10 years of experience in investment banking (M&A and Equity Capital Markets) and corporate finance advisory.

Ishan Sarkar has 12 years of industry experience with international banks. He is responsible for delivering equity derivatives, commodities, credits and rates structured products to clients. He replaces Wendy Ang, who has relocated to Hong Kong with HSBC.

Focus on HNWIs

HSBC previously announced plans to grow the combined market share of its retail and private banking business by increasing its customer-facing headcount and total wealth by focusing on high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) in Singapore and abroad, given the rising domestic wealth and international flows to Singapore.

The bank's ISPS team includes Investment Counsellors and Product Specialists responsible for providing sophisticated financial advisory to high net worth clients with more than $5 million in investible assets, in particular the ultra-high net worth segment with $100 million or more in investible assets.

«The establishment of our GSG team lead strengthens our position to support our ultra-high net worth clients who are looking to take their businesses to the next level but need to access more sophisticated investment banking capabilities,» Yeo said.
