HSBC Appoints CEO of Australasian Business
London-headquartered HSBC has named a new chief executive officer for its Australia and New Zealand unit.
HSBC has appointed Steve Hughes as CEO and head of banking for Australia and New Zealand, according to a spokesperson, effective 1 January 2026. He succeeds Antony Shaw who will step down at the end of the year after 19 years with the British lender.
Hughes joined HSBC in 2015 and led the wholesale banking division for Australia and New Zealand since January 2023. Previously, he spent more than 20 years at the Royal Bank of Scotland, with a focus on international banking operations.
