Ex-UK Chancellor Reportedly Shortlisted as HSBC Candidate
The former Chancellor of the UK has reportedly been selected as one of three candidates to succeed Mark Tucker as the chairman of HSBC.
George Osborne has been shortlisted as a candidate to become chairman of British banking giant HSBC, according to a report by «Sky News» citing unnamed sources. Osborne served as the UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2010 to 2016 under Prime Minister David Cameron’s government. Outside of his political career, he was also the editor of London newspaper «Evening Standard» from 2017 to 2020.
Osborne is reportedly one of three candidates who could take the top job at HSBC, alongside Naguib Kheraj, ex-deputy chairman of rival Standard Chartered, and Goldman Sachs APAC ex-Japan president Kevin Sneader.
Former KPMG vice chair Brendan Nelson is currently the bank's interim chairman after Mark Tucker stepped down at the end of September to join AIA as chairman.
