HSBC Promotes Asia M&A Head to Global Role

The Asia head of mergers and acquisitions at HSBC has been promoted to a global role in Hong Kong.

HSBC has appointed Christopher Chua as head of mergers and acquisitions, according to a «Reuters» report citing a memo, based in Hong Kong.

Chua has more than 20 years of experience advising international blue-chip companies on cross-border M&A transactions. He joined HSBC in 2022 to lead its M&A business in 2022. Prior to that, he worked at Credit Suisse.

He replaces the bank’s ex-global M&A head Kamal Jabre who left to join J.P. Morgan last month.

Asia and the Middle East

Chua will lead the M&A business in Asia and the Middle. The bank wound down its M&A and some equities businesses in Europe and the Americas earlier this year.

In addition, Vikas Seth will chair the M&A business at HSBC on top of his role as vice chair for corporate and institutional banking.
