It seems that the latest status symbol in private banking in Asia is a phone-call from Boris Collardi. finews.asia compiles a list of those whose phones are most likely to ring.

1. Jean-Claude Humair

Jean Claude Humair 502

A career banker with decades of Asia-experience, Jean-Claude Humair has all the requisite attributes to impress the high-flying Collardi – he is considered, well-spoken, as dapper one would expect a Frenchman to be and popular with clients and colleagues alike. Whatsmore, Humair’s shock move from his market-facing role as head of Hong Kong to the head of investment products and solutions (IPS) as a result of December 2017 reshuffle at UBS, makes him particularly ripe for the picking.

«Anyone who has met ‹JC› knows he is a client guy,» says one headhunter who is not mandated to work with UBS. «He comes across as a genuinely nice person and this translates well with clients, he is also a good manager and is able to retain and motivate bankers.»

These are not skills that lend themselves to an investment products and services role, and the headhunter stresses Humair would be in his element back in a client-facing role.
