HSBC Private Bank Names Global CEO
A former Citi veteran has joined HSBC to lead its private banking arm as its global chief executive officer.
HSBC has appointed Ida Liu as CEO of HSBC Private Bank, according to a statement, effective 5 January 2026. She is tasked with deepening the bank’s «leadership with [ultra-high net worth] clients, strengthening cross-border connectivity across key wealth corridors and accelerating the growth of the private bank globally».
In the role, she reports to Barry O’Byrne, CEO of HSBC International Wealth and Premier Banking.
Liu has 25 years of experience, including 18 years at Citi, most recently as the global head of Citi Private Bank. Outside of financial services, she was also a former executive at fashion brand Vivienne Tam.
