Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation strengthens its structured finance unit in Asia Pacific with the appointment of a head of mergers and acquisitions advisory.

SMBC has named Simone Chirolli as head of M&A advisory of the structured finance department, APAC (SFDA) – a newly created role – according to a statement, reporting to SFDA co-general managers Tomofumi Watanabe and Luca Tonello.

Based in Singapore, Chirolli is tasked with leading SMBC’s Asia M&A advisory efforts in the energy and infrastructure sector covering renewables and digital infrastructure, among other areas.

Chirolli has over 18 years of experience in the banking industry, most recently with JP Morgan where spent 11 years. His last position there was as its Asia ex-Japan head of infrastructure investors coverage in the energy, power, and renewables team. Previously, he held various roles at Merrill Lynch, Accenture, and Unicredit.
