International real estate specialist Hines has hired a former M&G executive to spearhead its investment strategy for Asia.

Chiang Ling Ng joins Hines as Asia chief investment officer (CIO), according to a statement, reporting to global CIO David Steinbach. She will also sit on Hines’ executive and investment committees. 

Ng has more than 20 years of experience and was most recently the CEO and CIO for M&G Real Estate’s Asia unit. Previously, she also worked with Goldman Sachs’ real estate private equity division where she oversaw its expansion into China as well as investment and coverage for the APAC region.

Ng is a Princeton University graduate with a degree in electrical engineering and is also fluent in English, Mandarin and Japanese.

Asia Expansion

In her new Singapore-based role, Ng will work closely will chief executive of APAC Ray Lawler and CEO of Eurasia and India Lee Timmins with a focus on «significantly elevate its real estate footprint and investor outreach». She joins other existing regional strategists including Americas CIO Alfonso Munk and Europe CIO Alex Knapp.

Founded in 1957, Hines is a privately owned global real estate investment and development management firm with a presence in 225 cities across 25 countries supported over 4,800 employees. Within Asia, it has nearly 200 employees across 15 cities in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea and Singapore with $4.2 billion of assets under management.

According to data from Institution Real Estate, Inc., Hines is the second-largest real estate investment manager in North America and the fourth-largest worldwide with a total of $144.1 billion in assets under management.
