The German lender has appointed a sustainable finance and environmental, social and governance (ESG) specialist to the newly created a new role, based in Singapore.

Deutsche Bank is beefing up with ESG strategy in the region with the appointment of Kamran Kahn as head of ESG for Asia Pacific, the firm announced in a statement on Thursday.

As part of his responsibilities, Kahn will be responsible for developing and coordinating Deutsche Bank's regional business strategy around ESG across all of its business divisions in the region, the statement said.

He reports regionally to Asia Pacific CEO Werner Steinmüller and locally to David Lynne, Singapore chief country officer, head of corporate bank APAC, and head of fixed income and currencies APAC.

Growing Role of ESG

«We have created this role as a statement of our intention to place ESG at the heart of our organization and the service we provide to clients in this region. ESG is a key strategic priority for us globally and regionally, and one that spans the full spectrum of our businesses,» Steinmüller said about the appointment.

Lynne added that the bank is «committed to pushing the ESG agenda forward in Asia Pacific.»

Experienced Leader

Kahn brings a wealth of experience in financial markets, sustainable development, and corporate and public advisory. He was most recently managing partner at Infra-Tech Capital, a firm he founded in 2016 to invest in companies that are utilizing technology to provide improved infrastructure services, generate higher returns and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

From 2013 to 2016, he was based in Washington, DC, appointed by the Obama administration to head the Millennium Challenge Corporation's global operations and oversee the agency's $10 billion investment portfolio. From 2004 to 2013, he was a program director at the World Bank's Singapore hub.
