«Singapore also offers a rather positive environment for women,» the report said of the ASEAN leader. «To begin with, it's been identified as the safest country for women in the Asia Pacific. Additionally, the gender gap has decreased in the past few years, reflected in the unopposed election of the nation's first female president, Halimah Yacob in 2017.»
Chindia: It’s a Man’s World
Interestingly, China and India ranked tenth and 12th, respectively, out of 12 countries despite the prospects of its fintech market.
The two most populous countries in the world ranked particularly low with regards to factors relating to women’s success which included gender gap and women's safety. Out of the 12 countries, China ranked 9th for gender gap and 11th for women’s safety while India ranked tenth and last, respectively.
The report excluded Hong Kong due to lack of data on its women’s marketplace potential and gender gap, though acknowledged its strength as a global fintech leader and rival to Singapore by number of startups per capita.
