Turning Ceramic Into Storytelling: Luzerne’s SG60 Tribute

In a country known for its relentless efficiency and futuristic skyline, it’s not every day that porcelain takes center stage. But Luzerne, Singapore’s beloved homegrown tableware brand, has turned ceramic into a storyteller, marking the nation’s 60th birthday not just with plates, but with purpose.

Luzerne's SG60 Diamond Collection isn’t just tableware; it’s history fired at 1,300 degrees – and a lifeline for mental health causes.

It's also a poetic ode to Singapore’s six-decade transformation – from swamp to skyline, from kampongs to cutting-edge. The flagship item: a 50 cm commemorative plate, limited to just 60 individually numbered pieces, tells this journey in one sweeping porcelain panorama.

No Ordinary Commemorative Souvenir

Created by acclaimed Singaporean artist and watercolourist Associate Professor Ng Woon Lam, the collection captures iconic national moments –from the Dragon Playground to the Changi Airport runway, from MRT lines to Marina Bay Sands.

But this is no ordinary commemorative souvenir. It's a philanthropic initiative aiming to raise S$600,000 for mental health, one donation at a time, as media were told on Tuesday at Luzerne’s headquarters in Singapore.

Each SG60 Diamond Plate requires a minimum donation of S$2,688 and comes encased in a premium box, complete with a custom-made stand and a commemorative booklet.

Ten of the 60 plates are being auctioned off through Luzerne’s partnership with Community Chest Singapore, with 100 percent of proceeds flowing to the President’s Challenge, The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund, Samaritans of Singapore, and Limitless Singapore.

Luzerne CEO Elaine Lek has made mental health advocacy personal. «As Singapore continues to progress, rapid change is inevitable,» she said. «This initiative is about supporting those navigating the societal pressures that come with that.»

Catalyst For Change

Luzerne’s commitment to community isn’t new. In 2015, its SG50 collection raised nearly SGD 900,000 for charity through a similar initiative. Now, the SG60 project builds on that legacy, turning dining pieces into vessels for healing, awareness, and national pride.

With over 20 social service agencies already expressing interest in using the plates for their own fundraising campaigns, the SG60 Diamond Plate isn’t just a limited-edition collectible – it’s a community project in motion.

Ceramics That Cross Borders and Eras

Beyond Singapore, Luzerne continues to expand its legacy. Its factory in Dehua, China, the birthplace of Blanc de Chine, produces up to 28 million pieces annually for over 66 countries. It’s where art meets automation, and heritage fuels innovation.

From supporting a Guinness World Record porcelain car sculpture to supplying top airlines and hotels, Luzerne has proven that tableware can transcend function.

But nowhere is its mission clearer than in SG60, a collection that reminds us that progress is not just about infrastructure or GDP, but about the emotional resilience of a nation and the strength of its people.
