Japan surpassed other nations to take the top spot as the best passport to hold, according to Henley & Partners, based on its accessibility to worldwide destinations. 

Visa-free or visa-on-demand access is available to 193 destinations for Japanese citizens, making their passport the leader worldwide, according to a report by Henley & Partners. The runner-up position was occupied by a tie between Singapore and South Korea at 192 destinations. Europe dominated most of the top positions, accounting for all of the remaining eight ranks, with Germany and Spain tied for third place at 190 destinations. 

Despite the top ranks being occupied by countries in Asia, the region is unlikely to cross borders as much as Europe and North America which has recovered mobility levels to around 60 percent of previous levels, the report added.

Henley & Partner's list ranks 199 passports according to the number of destinations holders can access without a prior visa. The best passports to hold, as of July 2022 are as follows:
