UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti Reportedly Plans to Exit in 2027

Sergio Ermotti is reportedly planning to leave UBS as its group chief in early 2027, four years after taking the job following the Credit Suisse takeover.

UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti is planning to step down in April 2027, according to a «Financial Times» report citing unnamed sources. The departure date has not yet been finalized by the Swiss bank's board and could change.

Ermotti, who was previously UBS CEO from 2011 to 2020, rejoined the bank in the top role in 2023 following the emergency state-brokered takeover of Credit Suisse. His exit will occur amid a critical dispute between UBS and the Swiss government over plans to tighten the bank’s capital requirements, which has fuelled speculation of a headquarters relocation.

Ex-Credit Suisse executive Iqbal Khan, current UBS wealth management co-head and Asia Pacific president, is viewed as one of the most likely successors for the top role. Other potential candidates include fellow wealth co-head Robert Karofsky, asset management head Aleksandar Ivanovic and chief operating officer Bea Martin.
