Aberdeen Appoints APAC Head of Equities

UK-based Aberdeen Investments has named a new Asia Pacific head of equities in Singapore, succeeding Flavia Cheong who has worked at the firm for nearly 30 years.

Aberdeen Investments has appointed Pruksa Iamthongthong as head of equities, Asia Pacific, according to a statement. She suceeds Flavia Cheong who will retire in December 2025 after almost 30 years with the firm.

Iamthongthong has nearly 20 years of experience with Aberdeen, currently as its deputy head of APAC equities.

Since 1997

Cheong joined Aberdeen in 1997 as one of the first members of its Singapore office when it had assets under management of just 250 million British pounds ($337 million). Over the next three decades, she played a pivotal role in building the team which now manages 16.9 billion pounds, as of March 31.

«Flavia helped put Aberdeen on the map in Asia. Her leadership, investment acumen, and commitment to nurturing talent have left an enduring legacy. We thank her for her extraordinary contribution,» said Devan Kaloo, global head of equities, Aberdeen Investments.

New Joiners

In addition, the British asset manager has hired portfolio constructor Isaac Thong and emerging market financial analyst Anthony Yang. Thong and Yang join from J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs, respectively, and will begin their new roles in June.

«Asia’s growth story continues to unfold, and we remain as excited about the opportunities ahead as we were when we opened our Singapore office over 30 years ago. With strong leadership and fresh talent, we are well-positioned to capture the next wave of growth,» commented APAC CEO Ian Macdonald.
