Technology is the primary industry for most young billionaires in Asia, according to Altrata, reflecting shifting economic and societal trends.

Technology led as the primary industry for billionaires at 50 years old or younger in Asia at 21.9 percent, according to a report by wealth intelligence firm Altrata. At 16.2 percent, banking and finance was the second most common primary industry for the region’s young billionaires.

Tech was also the primary industry for most young billionaires in North America at 27.9 percent while banking and finance led in Europe at 20.6 percent. Globally, other primary industries include business and consumer services, hospitality and entertainment as well as real estate.

Overall, those aged 50 and below accounted for just 10 percent of the billionaire population which had a median age of 67 years old.
