Numerous renowned figures in Hong Kong paid their respects to HSBC’s first Chinese executive director Vincent Cheng at his funeral.

Former Hong Kong chief executive Donald Tsang reportedly attended Vincent Cheng’s funeral yesterday with contributions in a memorial booklet also from current leader John Lee and his predecessor Carrie Lam.

Cheng died last month at the age of 74 and he made history in his banking career as HSBC’s first Chinese executive director in 1995 and its first Chinese chairman of Asia Pacific in 2005. He has also held various roles in the public sector.

Financial Bigwigs

Top figures from various sectors were present, including finance, such as Financial Secretary Paul Chan, HSBC’s current APAC co-chief David Liao and Hui Xian Asset Management chairman Kam Hing-lam.

While not present, HSBC chairman Mark Tucker also sent his condolences to Cheng’s family.
