Temasek Holdings has picked an internal candidate to become its new chief executive officer, succeeding incumbent Ho Ching.

Ho Ching will be retiring from Temasek Holdings and stepping down from its board on October 1 this year, according to a statement.

Succeeding Ho is Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara who will retain his existing role as chief executive of Temasek International (TI), the group's commercial arm.

Sandrasegara is a 20-year legal veteran and was a managing partner at WongPartnership LLP before joining Temasek in September 2010. Since then, he held various senior roles including head of investment, portfolio management and enterprise development while leading teams to cover markets including Singapore, the U.S. and the Americas.

Ho, who is also the wife of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, started her career as an engineer and worked for Singapore Technologies Group, where she became its president and CEO, before joining Temasek.
