The lawyer with a tech background will bolster the firm's capabilities in underwriting risks associated with mergers & acquisitions (M&A) across Asia Pacific.

Following plans to grow its presence in the region, U.K.-based specialist insurer Beazley has expanded its global M&A team with the hire of underwriter Jade Cummings, the firm announced in a statement on Wednesday.

Based in Singapore, Cummings was previously the lead legal counsel at McAfee responsible for the Southeast Asia region. She began her career as a private practice lawyer in Auckland and trained and qualified at law firm Russell McVeagh. She then worked at the law firm Anthony Harper before relocating to Singapore, the release said.

Strong Appetite for M&A

The addition of Cummings will «significantly enhance» Beazley's local offering in Asia Pacific and help the firm grow in Singapore, Tim Allen, global head of the M&A team and underwriter, said, noting that appetite for M&A insurance across Asia Pacific remains strong.

The firm established its Singapore office in 2006, which is now its Asia Pacific underwriting hub. Beazley's global M&A team underwrites companies engaged in mergers and acquisitions, including acquisitive corporations, private equity funds, corporate spinoffs, asset sales or purchases, and refinancing transactions.

Earlier in November, the firm announced the appointment of Byran Lee as head of partnerships for Asia-Pacific
