Chasing Greatness: Ferrari’s Next Big Thing

Ferrari’s latest creation, the Amalfi, offers an irresistible invitation into the world of Maranello – and finews.asia was there for the exclusive, embargoed unveiling. Making a much-anticipated comeback: the legendary start button, a fan favorite missing from the Roma.

The scene in Maranello was intimate and electric: no phones, no social media leaks, just the tense anticipation of a select group of journalists waiting for the curtain to rise on Ferrari’s latest creation.

The new Ferrari Amalfi was designed not so much to show off, but rather to enchant. This front-mid-mounted V8 coupé is essentially an invitation for those who find other Ferrari models too aggressive.

With 640 hp and a top speed of 320 km/h, the Amalfi is an extremely capable car on paper, but its true strength lies in its approachability.

Building on Roma’s Positioning

This concept has already proven successful in Switzerland: the Roma, launched in 2019 and on sale since 2020, showed just how effectively Ferrari can attract new customers with a softer, more elegant interpretation of its DNA.

The Swiss registration figures illustrate this impressively:

Model 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025
(to May)
Total
2020–2025
812 112 113 88 111 48 10 482
Roma 23 116 85 67 87 35 413
F8 73 177 87 47 4 0 388
296 0 0 42 115 141 47 345
SF90 2 92 45 64 52 36 291
Portofino 87 33 62 59 3 1 245
488 199 33 1 3 1 1 238

The Roma, launched as a contemporary, lifestyle-oriented Ferrari, quickly proved to be more than just a niche experiment. With 413 registrations since 2020, it even surpassed the expressive F8, confirming there is strong demand in Switzerland for a Ferrari that prioritizes elegance and daily usability over raw performance and aggression.

Bestsellers: 812 and Roma

The 812, meanwhile, remains an enduring icon of power and tradition, leading all models with 482 registrations.

The combined success of the Roma and 812 shows that Swiss buyers value variety: some are drawn to the classic V12 grand tourer charisma, while others to the Roma’s more subtle, understated «Dolce Vita» spirit.

Balance of Beauty

The Amalfi, in the spirit of the Roma, is aimed at this second group: a model that seduces drivers with a balance of beauty, functionality, and authentic Ferrari performance, without forcing them to sacrifice excitement or everyday usability.

Pricing starts at around 240,000 euros before options (base price in Italy), placing it close to a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS (starting at just above 200,000 francs in Switzerland) or an Aston Martin DB12 (around 280,000 euros).

Extra Downforce

For many first-time buyers, that price – combined with the elegant design and the inviting personality – might be reason enough to finally say «yes» to Ferrari. As with the Roma, around half of these customers were new to the brand.

Beyond technical refinements – including a brake-by-wire system and an active rear wing delivering up to 110 kg of extra downforce at high speeds — the Amalfi’s greatest charm offensive lies inside.

Ferrari is moving away from a fully digital approach and is bringing back beloved physical elements like the iconic red start button on the steering wheel.

«Humans Love to Feel»

This is more of a response to customers who have missed the immediate, tactile connection to their car. As Ferrari’s marketing chief Enrico Galliera said at the unveiling: «It’s an admission that drivers are human – and humans love to feel.»

In terms of design, the Amalfi builds on the Roma’s minimalist elegance but looks sharper and more sculptural. The dual-cockpit layout feels more spacious thanks to the redesigned center tunnel, while three main displays, including a 10.25-inch central screen, ensure that digital needs are still fully covered.

Dolce Vita on Wheels

Optional ventilated massage seats and a Burmester premium audio system round out an experience designed for both gentle coastal drives and dynamic Alpine passes.

The name Amalfi, inspired by the famous Italian coastal region, perfectly captures what Ferrari wants to express with this model: an open invitation to «La Dolce Vita» on four wheels. It is an invitation to immerse yourself in the Ferrari world.
