Art Basel makes a timely launch of its inaugural digital platform following the cancellation of its fair in Hong Kong due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Galleries that signed up with Art Basel in Hong Kong will be offered spots within its newly launched digital platform at no costs. The platform will enable collectors to browse art online and contact galleries for inquiries.

«We are delighted to be able to premiere this new initiative now. While the Online Viewing Rooms cannot replace our 2020 fair in Hong Kong, we firmly hope that it will provide a strong support to all the galleries who were affected by the cancellation of our March show,» said Adeline Ooi, director Asia at Art Basel in a «Swissinfo» report.

Originally scheduled for mid-March, Art Basel Hong Kong was canceled due to the Covid-19 outbreak that has already infected nearly 70 people and claimed two lives in the city. Art Basel’s online viewing rooms will debut on March 20 with VIP access offered from March 18 to 20.
