HSBC 

The British private bank named Sanjay Shah as desk head for international markets in Singapore. Shah, who will support the build-out of HSBC's offshore India business, joins from BNP Paribas, where he was head of wealth management for north Asia.

Citi

U.S. banking giant Citi hired for newly created roles at its Japan prime brokerage business serving global hedge funds. The bank named Thomas Morrison head of financial resource management, while Kentaro Takao, will lead capital introductions when he joins the firm later this month.

PwC

The professional services firm recruited Rachel Eng from the WongPartnership, where she was deputy chairman. Eng specialises in listings, finance, governance, and general corporate advisory.

Franklin Templeton

The global investment manager named Subash Pillai managing director, head of investment solutions, Asia. Based in Singapore, Pillai will report to Wylie Tollette, executive vice president and head of client investment solutions. Pillai joins from Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

UBS

The Swiss wealth manager named Errie Maksum desk head for the southeast Asia team. Maksum joined the Swiss bank from Bank of Singapore and was previously with Barclays where he managed the bank's coverage of that market since 2010.

Deutsche Bank

The German lender has named Richard Chung head of equities for the Asia-Pacific region. Chung replaces James Boyle, who resigned earlier this month amid the banks global restructuring.

Stephenson Harwood

The U.K.-based law firm appointed Gregory Xu. The consultant will launch a general banking practice in Singapore.

Hawksford

The international corporate trust and fund administrator named Marcus Hinkley head of private client services Asia. Previously, Hinkley held senior positions at Withers KhattarWong and Collas Crill in Singapore and Maples and Calder in the Cayman Islands. 

Block.One

The Cayman Islands-based firm behind a recent $4 billion cryptocurrency offering poached Jefferies ex-Asia CEO Michael Alexander. He will head Block.one’s venture capital unit and serve on the company’s executive committee. 

AllianceBernstein

The U.S.-based investment manager named Alex Qian as CEO for China. Based in Shanghai, Qian will to lead an onshore team of seven and will report to Ajai Kaul, regional CEO for Asia Pacific ex-Japan.

PIAS

The Singapore financial advisory firm appointed Lionel King as chief executive officer and board director. King joins from Prudential Assurance Singapore, where he was chief risk officer.

Citi

The U.S. bank poached from rival Goldman Sachs, hiring Udhay Furtado as a managing director for equity capital markets. Furtado was previously co-head of investment banking at Goldman Sachs South-East Asia.

DBS

Singapore’s largest lender named Tan Teck Long chief risk officer, effective July 1. In his new role, Tan will report to CEO Piyush Gupta.

Crossbridge Capital

The investment advisory firm appointed Hanna Tantoco head of marketing, effective June 25. She joins from insurer Aetna International, where she was the marketing business partner for Asia Pacific.

J.P. Morgan

The U.S. bank appointed John Murphy head of custody and fund services for the Asia Pacific region. Murphy succeeds Colin McKechnie, who will return to New York after spending the past three years in Hong Kong leading the bank's custody and fund services in the region. 

ABN Amro

The Dutch lender named Eugene Ganchev as head of trade and commodity finance in Asia Pacific, and Gregory Vandeler head of agri-commodities trade and commodity finance coverage for the region. Both Ganchev and Vandeler are based in Singapore.

Barings

The alternative investments arm of the asset manager appointed Pius Ho managing director across real estate and private equity and real assets. Ho will be based in the firm’s Hong Kong office.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia

The Sydney-based bank announced a number of management changes. Nigel Williams takes on the role of chief risk officer from November 5. He joins from ANZ where he was head of institutional banking in Australia and New Zealand. As a result, David Cohen will become deputy chief executive officer, moving from his current role as chief risk officer, also from November 5.

Angus Sullivan will run retail banking services on July 1, while Sian Lewis will be in charge of human resources and Andrew Hinchliff becomes of institutional banking and markets from August. Pascal Boillat will join the bank in October as head of enterprise services and chief information officer.

River and Mercantile Asset Management

The London-based investment manager named Tim Horan as the managing director of its new Australia and New Zealand operation. Horan, a former Australian rugby international, joins from Westpac, where he led the sports and entertainment business in private and premium banking.

Lazard Asset Management

The asset manager appointed Shen Tan as a managing director in Hong Kong. He was previously responsible for Capital Group's Asia institutional business, minus Japan.

Janus Henderson

The investment manager named Pimco wealth management executive Scott Steele as its head of distribution in Asia, based in Singapore. He replaces Alexander Henderson, who is returning to London. 

J.P. Morgan

The U.S. bank's Australian asset management business appointed James Matt as a consultant advisor based in Sydney. Matt will report to Rachel Farrell, CEO of Australia asset management at J.P. Morgan. Jacqui Crothers also joins the asset manager as the northern region key account manager based in Sydney. 

Citi

The U.S. bank named Lee Waite as Citi country officer for Japan effective August 1. Based in Tokyo, Waite will report to Jamie Forese, president of Citi and head of institutional clients group, and Bill Mills, North America CEO and head of international franchise management. 

ANZ

The Australian lender appointed Adrian Went as group treasurer, reporting to chief financial officer Michelle Jablko. Went will be based in Melbourne and will take up the new role in July.

J.P. Morgan

The U.S. bank promoted Charles Chiang to head of Asia Pacific equities. He will report to Jason Sippel, global equities head, and Nicolas Auguzin, chairman and CEO for Asia Pacific.

Goldman Sachs

The U.S. bank named Cai Wei partner and co-head of its China investment banking division. This is the first time Goldman Sachs has recruited a China partner from outside the firm.

Lemanik Asset Management 

The Luxembourg-based asset manager named Alessandro Silvestro managing director Asia Pacific. Previously, Silvestro was head of insurance sales at Standard Chartered in Hong Kong. He will report to Lemanik unit CEO Philippe Meloni.

Credit Suisse

The Zurich-based private bank appointed Teo Wei Zhen Asian equity fund analyst based in Singapore. According to industry news site Citywire, Teo joins from the Monetary Authority of Singapore. She will report to Angie Lee, head of funds and exchange-traded funds for Singapore at Credit Suisse.

BNP Paribas

The French bank named Diana Senanayake head of Singapore for its securities services. In the new role Senanayake will report to Philippe Benoit BNP Paribas securities services’ head of Asia Pacific and Pierre Veyres, BNP Paribas CEO for Singapore. She joins from RBC Investor and Treasury Services in Luxembourg.

Saxo

The Denmark-based bank named Eric Krueger global head of client services, a new position, effective from July 2. He will report to Damian Bunce, Saxo's chief commercial officer.

Citi

The U.S. bank named Kelvin Goh head of financial institutions group insurance, Asia Pacific investment banking and head of corporate finance for Singapore. He will be based in Singapore and report to Simon Yuan.

Standard Chartered

The head of compliance at Standard Chartered, Neil Barry, has stepped down following an investigation. Tracey McDermott became acting head of compliance at the bank when Barry was suspended and will continue in that role following his departure.

J.P. Morgan

The American bank snapped up former Pictet banker Grace Barki as the market head for Indonesia. She will report to Rahul Malhotra head of Southeast Asia and the non-resident Indian operation at the U.S. bank. 

Macquarie

The investment management arm of Australian bank Macquarie named Carl Jacobsohn head of the Asia business, succeeding Axel Maier who retired from the firm earlier this year. Bas van Buuren will also join the investment manager in late June as head of Asia distribution reporting to Jacobsohn.

CIMB

The Malaysian lender appointed Hendra Lembong chief fintech officer with effect from June 1. Prior to his new role, Lembong was CEO, group transaction banking. 

BNY Mellon

The world’s largest custodian bank named Catherine Keating chief executive officer of its wealth management arm. In the new role Keating will report to Mitchell Harris, chief executive of BNY Mellon Investment Management.

Schroders

British asset management firm Schroders named Michelle Han head of marketing for the Asia Pacific region. Singapore-based Han will report regionally to Lieven Debruyne, chief executive officer, Asia Pacific, and functionally to James Cardew, global head of marketing.

Credit Suisse

The Japanese unit of Swiss bank Credit Suisse poached from Deutsche Bank naming Nick Silver managing director and head of equities for Japan. Silver will be based in Tokyo, reporting functionally to Neil Hosie and locally to Martin Keeble, CEO for Japan. He will join Credit Suisse in September 2018.  

Manulife

In Hong Kong Manulife Financial has reshuffled its management. William Man becomes chief information officer and chief operations officer, Hong Kong. Ivan Chan is now chief partnership distribution officer, Hong Kong and Selina Ko is promoted to chief human resources officer, Hong Kong, and head of employee relations Asia.

HSBC

The private banking unit of HSBC named Edward Moon head of alternative investments group Asia. Moon took up the new role on June 1 and has moved from Singapore to Hong Kong. Prior to joining HSBC he was an executive director at Bank of Singapore.

BMO Private Bank

Canadian multinational banking group BMO named Jaye Chiu managing director and head of investment management for Asia at BMO private bank. Based in Hong Kong Chiu joins from Swiss bank EFG.

Maybank

Malaysia's Maybank appointed Michael Foong Seong Yew chief executive officer, International in addition to his role as group chief strategy officer with effect from June 1, 2018. Foong takes over the leadership of international from Pollie Sim who has retired from Maybank.

Finastra

Fintech firm Finastra named Simon Paris as the firm’s new chief executive officer. Paris, who currently serves as Finastra’s deputy CEO, will take over as CEO from Nadeem Syed as a part of a planned succession process.

Equiom

International professional services provider Equiom made a raft of hires and promotions in Asia. The firm named Pauline Lee director, Ying Pakdeethai and Seamus Fox as associate directors in Hong Kong. Andrea Hernandez and Anne Lueth were also recently appointed Senior Trust Managers based in Hong Kong.

Investec

Investec Asset Management the independently managed subsidiary of Investec Group named Diya Lowe head of South East Asia institutional sales. Based in Singapore, she will report to Kevin Kong, head of the Singapore office at Investec Asset Management. Lowe joins from Lazard Asset Management, Singapore. 

ABN Amro

Dutch bank ABN Amro appointed Christian Nolting and Nicolay Kuhnle as Directors in its Global Transportation & Logistics Asia-Pacific team. Based in Singapore, both will support Asia-Pacific Head of Transportation & Logistics, Darryl Tan, in expanding the bank’s coverage particularly with clients in its shipping segment.

UBS

In India the Swiss bank poached a senior investment banker from a rival naming Ranjan Sharma head of equity capital markets for India. Sharma joins UBS from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he was a vice-president on the India capital markets desk.

Blackrock

The U.S. fund house named Christian Orbist head of iShares for Australia, effective June 1. In the new role Orbist will report to the firm’s head of Australasia, Dominik Rohe, and head of iShares and index investing, Asia-Pacific, Susan Chan.

State Street Global Advisors

The asset management arm of State Street Corporation named Michele Barlow head of investment strategy and research of its investment solutions group (ISG), in Asia-Pacific. Based in Hong Kong Barlow will report directly to Ric Thomas, global head of strategy and research for State Street Global Advisors ISG.

Credit Suisse

The Zurich-based bank announced new appointments in its Asia Pacific (APAC), prime services business. James Scully joins the bank as managing director, head of prime product sales, APAC. Scully will take up the role in August and will be based in Hong Kong. Also based in Hong Kong Robert Cheeseman is named director, head of prime derivatives services, APAC.  Both Scully and Cheeseman will report to Ken Hon, head of prime products and trading, APAC.

RHB Bank

Malaysian lender RHB poached from Swiss bank UBS naming James Yeo as regional head of mergers and acquisitions. Yeo was head of institutional client coverage for Southeast Asia at UBS Asset Management. He will be based in Kuala Lumpur and is expected to join RHB in August 2018.

Northern Trust

Wealth and asset manager Northern Trust named David I. Kim head of corporate and institutional sales for Asia-Pacific. Based in Singapore, Kim will report to Jon Dunham, head of global sales for Northern Trust and William Mak, head of the Asia-Pacific region at Northern Trust.

Carlyle Group

Global alternative asset manager Carlyle Group boosted its Southeast Asia presence. The firm named Robby Winarta managing director and Long Hoang director to its Asian private equity platform. Based in Jakarta Winarta will lead investment activities in Indonesia while Singapore-based Hoang will focus on investment in Vietnam.

Deutsche Bank

German lender Deutsche Bank named David Lynne head of global transaction banking in Asia Pacific. Based in Singapore Lynne takes on the new role in addition to his current position as head of fixed income and currencies for Asia Pacific. He reports to John Gibbons, head of global transaction banking.

Societe Generale

French bank Societe Generale named Mark Liu group country head, Taiwan. Liu will replace Godwin Chang who will retire on June 30, 2018. Based in Taipei Liu will report to Hikaru Ogata, chief executive officer, Asia Pacific. The appointment is effective June 1, 2018, and subject to regulatory approval.

J.P. Morgan

The asset management unit of the the U.S. financial giant named James Santi as executive director and acquisitions officer for Australia and New Zealand in its Asia-Pacific real estate team. Based in Sydney Santi reports to Daniel McDonald, head of Australia and New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific real estate division.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch 

The Australian unit of Bank of America Merrill Lynch poached Credit Suisse investment banker Daniel Janes for its Sydney-based investment banking team. Janes was previously co-head of investment banking coverage in Credit Suisse's local team and head of corporate finance Australia at the Swiss bank.

Pinebridge

Global asset manager Pinebridge Investments poached Daniel Tai from French fund firm Amundi. Tai joins Pinebridge as senior vice president, institutional business, covering the greater China market. He will be based in Hong Kong and report to Maggie Zhao, managing director and head of institutional business, greater China.

ANZ

Melbourne-based ANZ promoted Alexis George to deputy chief executive officer in addition to her current role as group executive, wealth Australia. She joined ANZ in 2013 as managing director insurance and has been group executive, wealth Australia since 2016.

UBS

In Hong Kong the Swiss bank poached a team of private bankers from local lender Hang Seng Bank. The most senior hire Chiu Wai Man becomes country team head for Kowloon team 2. She is joined at UBS by a team of four from Hang Seng who include Jonathan Yeung, desk head, Aubrey Cheung, client advisor, Connie Chan, client advisor and Raymond Yung also a client advisor. 

UBS also named Kenny Wai country team head of Kowloon Team 1. Prior to joining UBS, Wai worked at Merrill Lynch. In their new roles both Chiu Wai Man and Kenny Wai will report to Adeline Chien, regional market manager, Hong Kong, UBS. 

Indosuez Wealth Management

The global wealth management unit of the Crédit Agricole Group named Julien Collin head of markets, investment and structuring in Singapore. Collin will report to Indosuez Wealth Management Asia chief executive Pierre Masclet and to Arjan de Boer, head of markets, investment and structuring, based in Hong Kong. 

Barclays

U.K. bank Barclays named former Credit Suisse banker Matt Pecot head of equities for Asia-Pacific. Pecot was previously head of prime services and head of equities distribution in Asia-Pacific at the Swiss bank.

BNP Paribas

French bank BNP Paribas Wealth Management (BNPWM), named Grace Tam as chief investment advisor Hong Kong. Tam will report to Prashant Bhayani, chief investment officer, Asia at BNPWM. She joined the firm from HSBC Global Asset Management where she was a senior market specialist.

UBS

In Singapore UBS poached Connie Ong from Bank of Singapore. Ong will join the Swiss bank as market head for Malaysia on July 2, 2018. In her new role she will report to August Hatecke, head UBS wealth management Southeast Asia. A UBS spokeswoman confirmed the hire to finews.asia.

Thirdrock

Singapore-based independent investment management group Thirdrock named Jamus Lim economist at the firm. Lim joins Thirdrock from from Abu Dhabi Investment Authority where he was lead economist.

UBS

Swiss giant UBS appointed Bryce Wan country manager in the ultra high net worth (UHNW) segment. Wan will be responsible for the China team based in Hong Kong. At his previous employer Goldman Sachs, Wan led a team of private bankers in the greater China region.

As a result of the move, Jenny Su and Zhang Xin, who were previously head of desk, have been appointed as country team heads for the UHNW China team based in Singapore and Hong Kong.

First Names Group

First Names Group appointed Mary Arokia as a director at its Singapore office. Arokia will lead the corporate services function in the jurisdiction.

Societe Generale

French bank Societe Generale appointed Inhwan Oh head of global markets sales for Asia Pacific. Oh replaces Yann Garnier, who was named head of sales for global markets in January. Based in Hong Kong, Oh will report to Garnier and Jerome Niddam, head of global markets for Asia Pacific.

Credit Suisse

Swiss bank Credit Suisse poached Geoffrey Baram from Morgan Stanley to beef up its greater China tech team. Baram joins Credit Suisse as a managing director. At Morgan Stanley he was executive director in corporate finance.

OCBC

Singapore lender OCBC appointed Dennis Hong managing director of OCBC Securities, effective May 1. Hong succeeds Raymond Chee, who will relocate to the U.S. to become general manager of the bank's New York agency, according to a media statement from the bank.

MUFG

Japan's MUFG named Janice Chua managing director and head of the Asian operations division. She will report to Takayoshi Futae, chief executive officer for Asia and Oceania, and become a member of the bank's regional management.

Citi

The U.S. bank's private banking arm named Timothy (Tim) Morse global market manager for Thailand, Malaysia and Brunei with immediate effect. Morse is based in Singapore and reports to Jyrki Rauhio, Citi private bank’s South Asia head.

Pimco

Fixed income investment manager Pimco named Stephen Chang executive vice president and portfolio manager. Based in Hong Kong he will report to Rob Mead and Tomoya Masanao, co-heads of Asia Pacific portfolio management. Chang was previously head of Asian fixed income at J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

M&G

The asset manager named William Tan head of intermediary channels Asia, with immediate effect. He will be responsible for the coverage of private banks, external asset managers and other wealth managers in the region and be based in Singapore.

DBS

Singapore's largest lender named Brit Blakeney innovation and ecosystem head. She will report to DBS's head of Hong Kong, Sebastian Paredes, and also be based in the territory.

Citi

The U.S. bank's private banking arm poached Julie Koo from rival UBS, where she was most recently head of institutional distribution for Asia Pacific and head of the overall Hong Kong asset management business for UBS. She was hired as head of Citi investment management sales for Asia Pacific, with immediate effect. 

Chubb

The insurer appointed Jin Lee head of Bancassurance for Asia Pacific.  Her main responsibility will be to manage the DBS-Chubb partnership which spans the region. Lee reports to Paul McNamee, regional president for Chubb in Asia Pacific.

State Street Global Advisors

The asset managee named Ellen Tsang head of marketing for Asia ex-Japan. Based in Hong Kong, Tsang reports directly to Richard Parker and locally to June Wong.

ANZ

The Melbourne-based bank said deputy CEO Graham Hodges will retire after 27 years with the bank, eight of them as deputy head.

Standard Chartered

The British bank's financial tech investment arm, SC Ventures, added Gautam Jain to its ranks. Jain was previously global head, digitization and client access transaction banking at Standard Chartered. He will continue to be based in Singapore and report to Alex Manson, who leads SC Ventures.

Citi

The U.S. bank's private banking arm named Simon Kastono global market manager for Indonesia. He will report to south Asia head Jyrki Rauhio.

HSBC

The British's bank's wealth arm poached Sundar Ramani from rival J.P. Morgan to bolster its non-resident Indian and international business. The banker spent nine years at HSBC before joining the American bank in 2011.  

Ignition Wealth

The robo adviser named Manish Prasad its new CEO. Previously, Prasad was director of asset and wealth management at KPMG in Australia.

Willis Towers Watson

The advisory firm named Simon Weaver as head of corporate risk and broking for Asia and Australasia, an expanded role from his current role in Australia. He will be based in Singapore.

Julius Baer

The Swiss private bank named Winston Teo head of its Southeast Asia team as well as Laurent Chevalley as senior advisor for international clients. Teo was previously with Bank of Singapore, while Chevalley joins from DBS.

AIA

The insurer named Gunawan Chiu Wu Pin Singapore tech chief with immediate effect. He was previously in a similar role in Indonesia.
