Australian Insurer QBE Appoints Head of Property for Asia

Sydney-headquartered insurer QBE has hired a former Chubb executive to lead its property business line in Singapore.

QBE has appointed Carles Tondo as head of property for Asia, according to a statement. Based in Singapore, he reports to Stephen Geisler, CEO of South Asia.

In the role, Tondo will drive the growth of QBE Asia’s property business and strengthen client relationships, overseeing property-related product strategy, pricing, and portfolio management, while ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. He will also manage regional performance for designated business lines, working closely with stakeholders across the region.

Tondo has 17 years of insurance experience with a strong property underwriting background spanning Spain, Switzerland, and Malaysia. He was most recently the head of property and technical lines for Singapore at Chubb.

Tondo assumes the property portfolio from Brendan Dunlea, regional head of construction and engineering at QBE Asia, who will continue to focus on leading the construction, engineering, renewables and power generation businesses, as well as building QBE Asia’s resilience vertical, reporting to Ronak Shah, CEO of wholesale markets, Asia.
