BNY Appoints Korea Country Manager

New York-based BNY has hired the former CEO of Samsung Asset Management to lead its Korea business as country manager.

BNY has appointed Phillip (Bongkyun) Suh as Korea country manager and Seoul branch manager, according to a statement, subject to the completion of regulatory procedures. In the role, he will lead the firm’s business in Korea and will be responsible for executing the country’s strategy, deepening and expanding client relationships, and ensuring effective governance oversight.

He succeeds Hyon Joo Park, who will retire in March after more than six years at BNY. Park will work closely with Suh to support a seamless transition.

Suh joins from Samsung Asset Management, where he served as CEO. Prior to that, he was head of Korea at Goldman Sachs Securities. Previously, he also worked at Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank and HSBC.

«This appointment marks an important step in our commitment to driving growth in Korea. Bringing over three decades of industry experience, Phillip will be instrumental as we continue to strengthen our presence and deliver enhanced solutions for our clients in this dynamic market,» said Fangfang Chen, head of APAC, BNY.
