MAS Names Sustainability Chief

The Singapore watchdog has appointed a new head to lead the city-state’s sustainability efforts.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has appointed Abigail Ng as chief sustainability officer (CSO), according to a statement, effective October 6. She takes over from Gillian Tan who has concurrently held the CSO role and assistant managing director (development & international) since 2022. Tan will continue to lead the development & international group as its head.

Ng, currently department head of markets policy & consumer department, has spearheaded efforts by the MAS’ Sustainability Group in the last three years to launch the Finance for Net Zero Action Plan, aimed at mobilizing financing for Asia’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

The group also advanced key initiatives related to taxonomy for sustainable financing standards, accelerating energy transition and blended finance in the region as well as enhancing skills and competencies in sustainable finance.
