Mastercard Names APAC President
Payment card giant Mastercard has appointed a new regional president for Asia Pacific through internal promotion.
Mastercard has appointed Richard Wormald as president, Asia Pacific, according to a statement, effective 1 January 2026. He succeeds Ari Sarker who will step down at the end of 2025 and move into an advisory position, focusing on strategic initiatives and mentoring regional leadership to support a smooth transition.
In the coming months, Wormald and Sarker will work closely together, engaging with stakeholders across markets through joint appearances and shared communications.
Wormald is currently division president, Australasia and this role will be succeeded by Paul Monnington who will join the firm in January 2026. Monnington has extensive experience in retail payments and fintech innovation, having previously held senior roles at Woolworths Group and
National Australia Bank.
