HSBC has hired a former Deutsche Bank executive as its private banking head for Asia Pacific.

HSBC appoints Lok Yim as regional head of global private banking, APAC, according to a statement. He will join on a designate basis on November 1 before formally commencing on 1 January 2024, subject to regulatory approval.

Based in Hong Kong, Yim reports to global private banking and wealth CEO Annabel Spring on a functional basis and South Asia head of wealth and personal banking Kai Zhang on an entity basis.

Yim has nearly 30 years of private banking and capital markets experience. He joins from Deutsche Bank where he spent 16 years in various roles, including Asia and emerging markets head of wealth management and international private banking as well as, most recently, Hong Kong CEO. Previously, he also held senior roles at Citigroup.

40-Year Career

Yim succeeds Siew Meng Tan, who is retiring after nearly 40 years in the banking industry. She worked at HSBC for 20 years, including the last seven years as its global private banking head for APAC.

Tan will remain as an advisor to the business until 31 March 2024.
