AMTD Group’s digital finance subsidiary names its new chief information and operating officer, formerly with Standard Chartered Bank.

Singapore-based AMTD Digital appoints Osman Faiz as its CIO and COO, according to an announcement, after most recently being the COO for Standard Chartered in the city-state.

Faiz has more than 25 years of international banking experience and prior to his latest COO role, he was also regional head of wholesale banking operations at Standard Chartered in Singapore. Previously, he was also the head of operations at Indonesia’s Permata Bank.

Digital Pursuit

According to the chairman of AMTD Group and AMTD Digital, Calvin Choi, the firm will seek to capitalize on Faiz's global banking and operational experience to drive the firm’s regional banking initiatives and improve operational efficiency.

And his tech and product expertise will bolster the digital offering through AMTD SpiderNet – a proprietary ecosystem that consists of tech firms, banks, education organizations and more.

According to its website, AMTD Digital is the AMTD Group’s digital finance arm with a focus on four segments: digital finance licenses, smart data analytics, digital alliance ecosystem and digital strategic investments. The Hong Kong-headquartered AMTD Group is also a joint venture partner in one of Hong Kong's eight licensed virtual banks – Airstar, which officially launched in June – alongside Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi.
