The financial services heavyweight joins Diginex, a digital asset and advisory firm, as its chairman of Asia.

Chi-Won Yoon will join the Hong Kong-based role in a bid to «bring its digital asset financial services and blockchain solutions to partners and investors throughout Asia,» according to a Diginex statement.

Yoon resigned from UBS after a 22-year career with the Swiss financial giant. He was last the vice chairman of its wealth management business, responsible for developing and enhancing long-term strategic relationships. Previously, he held top leadership positions serving as UBS's president and chief executive of Asia Pacific as well as a member of its group executive board overseeing the whole business in 13 countries around the region. 

Yoon joined UBS in 1997 before establishing its equity derivatives business in Asia and held various senior roles in the region inclined head of equities, head of securities and Hong Kong country head. Previously, Yoon had also worked for the likes of Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch in New York.

Expansion Drive

Diginex is on the verge of a listing which will provide capital for further expansion. It expects to list on the Nasdaq pending the completion of an ongoing reverse merger deal.

«His vast and impressive career has meant Yoon has decades of experience in a multitude of dynamic operating environments,» said. Miles Pelham, chairman of Diginex. «His wisdom and operating experience will be invaluable as we expand our financial services offering.» 

Also recently hired in the region was Vicki Tan who joined as head of compliance in Singapore with responsibilities to build out the firm’s regulatory footprint in the city-state. Most recently with Norwegian financial group DNB ASA, Tan also previously held senior roles with ANZ, RBS, Credit Suisse and J.P. Morgan.
