BetterTradeOff has added a banking industry senior executive to its board and hired for two senior roles at the company, as it ramps up capabilities for its life planning solution.

The former CEO Retail Banking & Group Head Brand and Marketing at Standard Chartered Bank, Karen Fawcett, has joined BetterTradeOff as a non-executive director, the Singapore-based startup announced on Wednesday.

Fawcett, who has a long and broad career encompassing wholesale and retail banking, global strategy, as well as brand and marketing, will bring «valuable insight and strategic counsel» to BTO’s senior management, the announcement said. 

Before she entered the banking industry, Fawcett was a partner at management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, specializing in financial services in the Asia-Pacific region. She is also currently a non-executive director at graduate business school INSEAD.

Ad Industry CEO Joins

BetterTradeOff also announced the hire of marketing and communications specialist Shannon Cullum (pictured below) as chief marketing officer. He brings 25 years of experience to the firm, including nine as CEO of advertising agencies Saatchi & Saatchi and MullenLowe.

Cullum will lead the firm's development of its B2C brand proposition and spearhead the consumer launch, the announcement said.

eCommerce Veteran to Lead Product Team

Alex Shiu was also appointed as chief product officer. He joins from Hotels.com, where he was head of strategy and business development for Asia Pacific.

Shiu brings a wealth of experience from companies such as eBay, Yahoo!, Walmart eCommerce, Lazada and Expedia, where he held a variety of strategy and ecommerce roles.

Life Planning Solution

BetterTradeOff was founded in 2015 and offers a software-as-a-service (SaaS) life planning solution. It currently operates in four countries: Singapore, Philippines, UAE, and Switzerland.

The firm has raised $2 million in seed funding and has 15 staff based in Singapore.
