A former world leader who vacated his job last year is hitting the paid-speaking circuit in Asia, with a bank-sponsored visit to Singapore. The former leader has personal ties to the region.

The former U.S. president will be speaking to 1,000 selected clients and invited guests in May, Bank of Singapore CEO Bahren Shaari told local news outlet «Channel NewsAsia».

The 44th president of the U.S. is slated to speak on the future of the global economy as well as Asia’s growing influence. Despite avowals to remain out of the public eye, Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, quickly hit the paid-speaking circuit, which typically nets millions for a series of brief, prepared appearances.

Obama's visit to Singapore is notable because he spent several years in neighboring Indonesia in his youth. Bank of Singapore has shelled out for high-profile speakers before, including Nobel Prize recipients Joseph Stiglitz, a Columbia University professor, and economist-columnist Paul Krugman.
