Liquid Group has tied up with Joint Electronic Teller Services to enable cross-border QR payments between Singapore and Hong Kong.

Travelers across Hong Kong and Singapore now have a more convenient and efficient payment option, without having to hold physical foreign currencies. Under a strategic partnership announced by both companies on Thursday, the QR payment apps of the partner banks for both Liquid Group and Joint Electronic Teller Services (Jetco) can be seamlessly used in both markets.

«We are excited to be moving at pace to advance cross-border QR payments, for which the traveler segment is a key driver. We will continue to partner with various e-wallets and expand the network across the region to enable cross-border payment transactions and facilitate large-scale adoption of QR payment apps,» said Jeremy Tan, founder and CEO of Liquid Group.

Positioned for Travelers

In addition to payments, Liquid Group’s platform will also enable merchants in both Hong Kong and Singapore to launch multiple marketing campaigns with participating payment apps without the need for additional cashier training or verification during checkout. In April this year, Liquid Group announced its partnership with Changi Airport Group to roll out the world’s first integrated QR Payment and Marketing Platform for the merchants across all four terminals at Changi Airport.

Earlier this month, Singapore-based mobile wallet operator YouTrip, which hopes to tap on booming travel in the region, secured the largest pre-Series A funding round for a fintech startup operating in Southeast Asia, as reported by finews.asia.
