UBS Names First Chief AI Officer to Accelerate Transformation
UBS appointed a veteran artificial intelligence leader – a move that underscores the Swiss bank’s ambition to place AI at the core of its global operations, client experience, and innovation agenda.
Daniele Magazzeni brings extensive experience in both AI research and large-scale technology implementation, according to a media release issured on Thursday.
He joins UBS from J.P. Morgan, where he served as chief analytics officer for EMEA and the Commercial and Investment Bank, leading the firm’s global analytics strategy across markets, payments, and securities services,
Before entering the financial industry, he was an associate professor of AI at King’s College London.
Driving UBS’s AI Strategy
As chief artificial intelligence officer, Magazzeni will spearhead UBS’ global AI strategy with the goal of reshaping business capabilities, improving client experience, and boosting employee productivity.
He will also lead the newly established chief artificial intelligence office – responsible for scaling AI-powered tools across the organization, ensuring consistent standards, and strengthening UBS’s technological foundations.
Based in London, Magazzeni will report to Mike Dargan, group chief operations and technology officer, starting 1 January 2026.
From Research to Real-World Impact
The appointment builds on UBS’ series of large-scale AI initiatives known internally as «Big Rocks», launched earlier this year. These projects aim to deliver firm-wide efficiencies and innovation.
UBS already has more than 300 active AI use cases, and AI-powered tools – including Microsoft’s M365 Copilot and UBS’s in-house virtual assistant Red – are being rolled out to employees globally.
Defining Step in UBS’s Digital Evolution
By elevating AI to a dedicated executive role, UBS signals a strategic commitment to the transformative potential of artificial intelligence.
The creation of a chief AI office marks a milestone in the bank’s ongoing digital evolution – one designed to blend technological leadership with human expertise and deliver next-generation value to clients worldwide.
