A former JPMorgan executive is joining Deutsche Bank as a managing director and group head for wealth management in Southeast Asia.

Esther Wong joins Deutsche Bank as managing director and head of a wealth management team in Southeast Asia, according to a statement, effective January 2023. Based in Singapore, Wong reports to Anurag Mahesh, vice chairman and interim head of international private bank (IPB) Southeast Asia.

Wong is tasked with expanding Deutsche Bank’s private banking footprint in Southeast Asia across lending, investing, cash management, one-bank solutions (OBS) and inter-generational wealth transfer services to ultra-high net worth (UHNW) and family office clients.

Wong joins from JPMorgan where she spent 10 years focusing on the UHNW client segment. Previously, she also spent five years at UBS.

Expansion Drive

Deutsche Bank has been expanding its private banking unit in Asia as of late, most notably with the hire of ex-Credit Suisse Asia deputy wealth head Jin Yee Young.

«We see good reason for stepping up investment in Asia. In particular, growth rates in India and Southeast Asia offer very exciting opportunities,» said head of IPB and EMEA chief executive Claudio de Sanctis.
