Franklin Templeton has named the co-heads of the Asia Pacific region with two internal appointments.

Tariq Ahmad, currently head of Asia distribution, and Matt Harrison, currently a managing director in Australia, will become co-heads of Asia Pacific, effective 1 August, Franklin Templeton said in a press release Wednesday. The two will take over from Vivek Kudva, head of Asia Pacific, who will retire at the end of July after 16 years, the release said.

Both Harrison and Ahmad will report to Adam Spector, executive vice president for global advisory services at Franklin Templeton, the release said.

«The Asia Pacific region is critical to the growth strategy for Franklin Templeton. Both Tariq and Matt are industry veterans with successful track records of leading investment management businesses,» Spector said. «Their appointment will allow us to capture rapid growth opportunities in the backdrop of shifting market dynamics. Given the strengths of both leaders, we are confident that they will meaningfully accelerate the firm’s growth in the region.»

In July 2021, the firm appointed Ahmad to his role as head of Asia distribution. He was previously director, head of Asia and CEO of Asia at Brandywine Global Investment Management – a specialist investment manager of Franklin Templeton.

Harrison was named managing director in Australia in 2017, joining from Colonial First State (CFS) a subsidiary of Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) where he was general manager for distribution.
