Sightings of Jack Ma continue to be rare and well-noted as it sheds light on his condition, given a shaky standing with the Chinese Communist Party.

Renowned entrepreneur Jack Ma was seen golfing in Hainan, an island in the southernmost point of mainland China, according to a «Bloomberg» report citing unnamed sources.

Ma was golfing on a secluded 27-hole course at the Sun Valley Golf Resort.

This marks the first time Ma has reappeared after a live stream video chat with rural educators surfaced on January 20.

Positive Indicators

Ma’s golf outing is an indicator that the tech pioneer may have thus far avoided some of the worst outcomes speculated by many such as imprisonment or government seizure of assets.

Earlier this week, SoftBank founder and earlier Alibaba investor Masayoshi Son also said he remained in touch with Ma, adding that the Chinese billionaire likes to draw and has been sharing sketches with him online.

Following his infamous «pawn shop» speech in Shanghai, Ma has faced a wave of bad news from Beijing. In addition to disappearing from the public spotlight for months afterward, Ant Group was forced to pull out of a $35 billion IPO before eventually downsizing and restructuring into a financial firm. Ma was also notably missing from state media’s recent list of the nation’s top entrepreneurs despite easily being the most recognizable business figure in China.
