Sompo Taps Veteran to Lead International Markets

Sompo has appointed a seasoned insurance executive as CEO of International Markets, reinforcing its global ambitions beyond North America and Japan.

Sompo, the Bermuda-headquartered provider of commercial and consumer (re)insurance, announced that Alessandrea «Alessa» Quane will assume the role of CEO, International Markets, subject to regulatory approval. Effective immediately, she will report directly to James Shea, CEO of Sompo P&C, according to a media release sent on Thursday.

Broad Geographic Scope

In her new role, Quane will oversee Sompo’s commercial and consumer operations across the UK, Continental Europe, including Turkey, Brazil, and Asia Pacific (excluding Japan).

Regional management in these markets will report directly to her, underlining the scale and strategic importance of her mandate.

A Veteran of Global Insurance

Quane brings more than three decades of international insurance experience, having lived and worked in the US, UK, Germany and France.

Starting her career as an actuary, she has held senior posts including Global Corporate Chief Actuary and Chief Risk Officer. Most recently, she was Chief Insurance Officer at US healthcare insurer Oscar Health and served as an independent director on the board of Axa XL Bermuda.
