Officials in Montenegro claim that Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon said he had received preferential treatment from officials elsewhere while on the run.

Last week, Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon, alongside chief financial officer Han Chang Joon, was arrested in Montenegro, ending months of speculation about his whereabouts. Kwon's exact location had not been known since September 2022 when South Korean authorities issued an arrest warrant over alleged breaches of capital markets law.

And according to Montenegro interior minister Filip Adzic, Kwon spoke of pleasant dealings with authorities in other places.

«Do Kwon and his companion acted especially surprised and they told our officials that elsewhere in the world they had been used to VIP treatment,» Adzic said in a «Bloomberg» interview.

Neighboring Country

Adzic said that Kwon and Han were arrested in Montenegro after spending some time in a neighboring country, without providing additional details.

Last month, South Korean officials were reportedly searching for Kwon in Serbia, which shares a border in the southwest with Montenegro.

Seized Possessions

Kwon and Han were arrested last week after attempting to fly to Dubai using falsified documents. Upon further inspection, Montenegrin authorities found a forged Belgium passport and a South Korean passport in another name.

They also seized three laptops and five mobile phones with a significant amount of «very interesting» information, though Adzic did not further elaborate.

Officials in the US and South Korea have both said they intend to seek Kwon’s extradition to face criminal charges. Authorities in Montenegro said that they have yet to receive any formal extradition request.
