Citi announced appointments for its markets and research units in Australia as a sign of continued market expansion.

Citi made eight new appointments in its Australian markets and research business, according to a statement released by the bank, part of a broader plan to meet increasing client activity in the country. 

Howard Ilderton was recently named as head of linear product and trading for Australia and New Zealand. Ilderton rejoins Citi from Credit Suisse where lead the Japan prime and APAC securities lending team

Will Buttigieg is to join the equity trading team in July following 17 years at UBS in Sydney where he has held various trading roles in equity derivatives and facilitation.

Norbert Wong will join the prime services team in mid-June in a client-facing stock loan and Delta-1 sales role. Wong previously worked at Credit Suisse and Macquarie Bank.

Allan Newsome will relocate from Hong Kong, where he was in the prime team, to join the low touch, electronic execution team.

Research Hires

In the research unit, Howard Penny joins as a research analyst in the real estate team. She last worked at Anchor Capital and previously had experience in primary and secondary markets with Morgan Stanley and Macquarie Bank.

Tom Wallington joins the industrials research team from Forecast Global where he specialized in commercial energy modeling and data analysis. He also previously worked at AME Group as a natural resource and energy research analyst. 

Ex-VFMC investment analyst Jacob Loi joins the tech research team and former PwC actual consulting senior associate Donna Fu joins the insurance reach team.

Australia Expansion

Citi has been expanding its institutional business in Australia as well. In April, it hired managing director and senior relationship manager Niki Ashton to focus on superannuation-related activities.
