Citi has appointed a new managing director for the markets unit to focus on Australia's superannuation sector.

Nicki Ashton joins Citi Australia as a managing director and senior relationship manager in the markets function, according to a statement.

Ashton will be tasked with helping to meet increased client activity, with a focus on the country's superannuation sector.

Ashton rejoins Citi with more than 25 years of experience in the financial sector, across banking and asset management, most recently with IFM Investors and Pendal Group. In addition, she also acts as a non-executive director in a number of Australian charities.

«It’s great to welcome [Ashton] back to Citi, where she will be responsible for the growth of some of our largest clients, particularly within the superannuation sector,” said Mark Woodruff, head of investor sales for Citi Australia and New Zealand.

«The super sector has been a key area of focus across the markets platform and continues to provide increasing opportunities in both local and offshore markets as the funds internalize their investment function and seek to increase exposure to international markets.»
