The former Asia chairwoman of BNP Paribas Wealth Management and regional vanguard of private banking has joined J. Safra Sarasin.

Mignonne Cheng has joined J. Safra Sarasin as its chairman for Asia, according to a statement.

Cheng has over 40 years of financial services experience including 30 years with BNP Paribas, last as its Asia chairman of the wealth unit – a role she held since 2010. Previously, she held various senior management roles with the French lender including general manager for the Chines division and Hong Kong branch CEO.

«[Cheng] is a well-respected and seasoned banker and financial professional,» said Jacob J. Safra, chairman of J. Safra Sarasin Group. «She will bring a wealth of experience to Bank J. Safra Sarasin in Asia, which will be greatly beneficial for us to further scale up and meet our growth plans in this important region.»

BNP Paribas Reunion

Cheng left her previous role in late 2020 and now rejoins another private bank ranked in the top 20 in the region at $20.8 billion, according to «Asian Private Banker» data.

Her arrival at J. Safra Sarasin is also a reunion of sorts after it hired ex-BNP Paribas private banker Andy Chai as its Asia chief executive in February last year.
