BNP Paribas Wealth Management has hired a former Standard Chartered private banker as its Hong Kong chief executive, finews.asia has learned.

Michael Yong-Haron has joined BNP Paribas Wealth Management as its Hong Kong CEO and head of North Asia, sources told finews.asia.

When contacted, a spokesperson declined to comment on the hire or other matters related to personnel.

Yong-Haron was most recently with Standard Chartered where he was a market head for Greater China and North Asia for over four years. Prior to that, he was the North Asia head for RBC Wealth Management for around two years. Previously, had also worked with Credit Suisse and Credit Agricole’s private banking unit.

Talent Ouflow

Yong-Haron joins BNP Paribas’ wealth arm amid an outflow of private bankers in Asia.

Notable exits include former Asia co-CEO Andy Chai, who joined J. Safra Sarasin as its Asia chief, and multiple non-resident Indian bankers, some of which have joined Nomura's international wealth unit.
